CARDIOVMEDS “The Heart Mart”, a
member of the CARDIOVMEDS
Group of companies had our annual heart month celebration on February 11, 2021,
under the theme “TAKE IT TO HEART: SKIP TO BETTER HEALTH”. Due to the pandemic,
the celebration was largely virtual. However, we catered to the elderly
residence in and around the Downtown area. They were able to come into our
facility at 143 King Street to receive care packages which were made possible
from the kind sponsorship and donations from many companies.
Members
of the Jamaica Constabulary force, located at the Central Police Station, under
the management of Sergeant Jerr Johnson, assisted us by mobilizing the elderly,
sick and shut-in individuals to the facility so as to have their blood pressure
checked, as well as, most received a therapeutic massage for arthritis and
other muscular conditions, from Masseuse, Vinton Thomas along with a free medical by renowned neurosurgeon;
Dr. Roger Hunter who volunteered to see patients with varying general health
issues.
The Skip-a-thon
was streamed online through our Facebook social media platform. Our online viewers
were also able to participate by entering in the skipping competition to win
lovely baskets from Grace Foods. Skippers’ onsite also participated and received participation certificates and care packages.
We
were able to see the participation of over 100 individuals who came in at varying
intervals with only 10 persons inside the facility at any given time to be seen
by our nurses, massage therapist and doctor.
We wish
to say a hearty thank you to all our volunteers and sponsors. Post Skip-a-thon
coverage/feature was done at CVM at Sunrise- Buss a Move! on February 12, 2021.
